"A Robot Rides the Rails" - Sonic the Hedgehog #31
Today’s story features Sonic and the gang trying to stop the transportation of a new prototype super bot that can transform.
There’s only two things we need to take away from this.
First, Antoine is still piloting the plane. Hopefully this means that the writers are finally being consistent with his character.
Secondly, this is the first time that the rest of the Freedom Fighters (sans Bunnie, again) meet Geoffrey St. John, or, more specifically, the first time Antoine meets him.
Now, on the surface, this just seems like Antoine’s jealously and crush on Sally flaring up again. And there is some truth to that. But, in reality this is setting up a far deeper and complex rivalry between him and Geoffrey that’ll last for years into the comic’s run.
Outside of that, this issue also covers a Knuckles solo story that ties into a larger arc and the first part of a Rotor solo story. Add in the Tail’s miniseries that’s co-currently running with this story, and that makes Antoine the only FF not to get a solo mission. And sadly he never truly will. :(
